Why do Christians get Crisis in their life?

Dear Friends, As a Christian we may wonder why do we have so much trials and troubles in our life. We may think that we are living as per God’s will and why does God let all the difficult situations in our life.

Please read the verse from Isaiah 43: 2.  Isaiah wrote this chapter as a comfort message because of Israel’s restoration. He is telling that if we walk through heavy waters or heavy fire nothing will happen to us. What does it mean to us as a Christian?  We can see that we are undergoing all these tests while a worldly person has no problems and lives a happy life. My dear friend, if a problem comes for a worldly person that is his end of life. Either he may suicide or get depressed and start winging. But we have an assurance of Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit who can get us through this situation.

Bible scholars say that God has divided the problems in a Christian life as two types. Simple problems will be equivalent to water and hard problems will be equivalent to fire. What does it mean?

Sometimes we may have a situation where we lost all the savings, house and everything we possessed. But our friend might have just lost few thousands of dollars. Also that friend could be a Christian as well.  Here we can see that God analysed two of us. He gives us a problem which we can tolerate. May be you have more power than your friend so that you can easily undergo the difficult situation than your friend with Gods help. So God always know who should get which problem. You know why God is giving this problem to us. As per the above verse it’s for getting us more and closer to God.

If everything is smooth in our life we may not seek God at all. But when a problem arises immediately we run to him seeking his help. That’s why God tests us sometimes. We can see three different situations.

  1. In the book of Numbers God says to Israel to throw the hard things like gold and silver into the fire while other things just wash by the water. Hard things won’t get melted in the fire so as the strong and power full people won’t get affected if they have a very difficult situation where as soft people get so depressed. That is why God gives us both simple and complex problems depending on our nature. When we see the life of Israel people, God promised them the land of Canaan but they got it only after 40 years. They went through all difficult situations in their life in the desert. But God helped them in all their trials and tribulations. Sometimes they forgot God and slipped in a bad way but God showed mercy on them. Finally they reached their promised land.

  1. Let us look at the Eagle who nurtures and brings us their little kids. This is mentioned in Ex 19; 4. First level of the eagle nest will be with sticks. Then it will spread soft cotton or other material. Then it lays its eggs and the babies come out. In one stage, when the babies grow up mother eagle will throw all the soft material from the nest. Then the babies have to learn the hard surface inside the nest which is made up of sticks. After that the mother eagle breaks the nest and the baby eagle is about to fall. But the mother eagle will flying on the top of the baby eagle. But some of the babies will learn to fly by that time but some may fall down. It could be falling onto an ocean or to bush or any dangerous surface. Immediately the mother eagle spreads it wings and carry the baby eagle from falling down. This is the same situation in our lives too. God will let to walk ourselves and try to get out with the faith. But in a situation when we cant handle ourselves he jumps out and helps us. Another example is Jesus calms down the storms. It is in Mathew 8: 23-27. The disciples were travelling in the boat while Jesus was sleeping. When the winds came on Jesus could have woken up him and calmed the sea. But he did not do that. Why? He was waiting for the disciples to call him. Because disciples tried all their ways to make the boat still but they could not do it. They should have their faith strong and believed that Jesus is in the boat and nothing will happen. But they came running to Jesus with fear.

  1. Next is the example of the Potter who uses clay to make pots. In Jeremiah 18: 1-6. In this story we are the clay and Jesus is our potter. Potter actually takes the clay, adds water and makes dough by stepping on it and beating it with heavy weapons. Then he puts them on the wheel and tries to make a pot. Sometimes it may come out as a shining pot but sometimes it may break. But the potter still put them on the wheel and tries till he gets a new pot. Same way Jesus tries to mould us in his way and we may slip up but Jesus brings us back and adds some more ingredients like mercy, kindness. After that with the help of holy spirit (wheel) designs us as a useful pot.

So from the above three points we learned that God puts us in difficult situations to mould us into his will and like him. He wants us to be like him, live in this world by fighting against all evil things and finally reach the eternal life. He never forsakes us leaves us in the middle of nowhere. He does not want us to be a spoon fed child. He wants us to grow up in spirit and be useful to glory his name. Always he walks us by our side and monitors us. He is not giving us any difficult situation. We get into those situations by our shortcomings and God watches us to get through those situations. Offcourse he will help us. We will not get withered or burnt when we walk in that situation.

I will tell you the other side as well. Difficult situations or Crisis in our life is for measuring our faith or truthfulness to God. When we look into the life of Job he went through all crises in his life. He lost his wealth, kids and all possessions. He got diseases all over his body. Even his friends and wife told him to disregard God and testify against him. But he did not do that. As per Satan’s wish God measured Job’s faithfulness. He told Satan not to touch his life at any cost. And Job came out of that fire as a pure Gold. Also he got rewarded 7 times before he had. So God uses crisis time as a measuring tool to measure our faithfulness and truthfulness.

To conclude, my dear friends please be noted that If we are true Christian and faithful to God, we will not get perished in any crisis situation. God will help us in all our trials and tribulations and get us out of it as glittering Gold. That’s how we reach his kingdom after glorifying his name.
